3. Comments
 1) When teachers apply "Kahoot" program, we should think about how the Internet connection is possible before the class.
 2) When teachers make teams, using students' interest such as( Chicken brand, Fast food and so on) is good to help students engage in the class.

Visual Thinking Teaching Demonstration

Name: Ella (Moon Hee-eun)
Grade Level: Middle School 2nd grade
Textbook: Dong-A

Topic : Visual Thinking

Lesson Title: Lesson 4. The Amazing World of Animals (Reading)

Source of Inspiration/ Experimental GoalNow, we’re living in the world of image. Before starting the ‘Reading’ part of this lesson, students can figure out the main idea and some key information of the text through visual thinking activity.

Language Skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking

Learning Objective: After this class, students will be able to...
1. visualize the content of the text through simple drawing
2. guess some key information with the pictures of other groups
3. complete the text by filling in in the blanks.

Teaching Development Goals:
Rather than having students read the text directly without any preparation, I’d rather do some pre-reading activities for making them prepared to read the text in detail. With visual thinking method, which needs collaborating with others, I want my students to get the gist and some key information from the text.

Materials/Tools
Textbook, worksheet for practicing visualization(individual), worksheet for visual thinking(group), colored pens, PPT slides

Detailed Procedure
(1) Opening & Warm-up Students solve some questions which are helpful for guessing today’s topic(animals) with Kahoot.

(2) Introducing learning objectives
Read Today’s learning objectives together.

(3) What is visual thinking?
Teacher shows some pictures and a short video clip which are related to visual thinking. Through this, students can figure out the importance of visual images nowadays.

(4) Let’s practice visualizing!
T gives students a worksheet for practicing drawing for visualization. On the worksheet, there are some simplified pictures for practicing visualization.

(5) Let’s start reading.
T shows the first part of the text to the students, and students read it aloud. T assigns each animal to each group and explain what they are going to do briefly.

(6) Visualizing(10 mins)
Each group reads their part of reading carefully, and visualize the content of the paragraph. For this, they should express as much information as they can. Also, they should not use any English text.

(7) Guessing and Writing(3 mins for each paragraph)
With the visualized text of other groups, each group makes a guess the detailed information of the text that they did not read. After that, they fill in the blanks to complete the text.

(8) Check the answers togetherStudents check the answers together with PPT slides. T gives points for both good guessing and good drawing.

(9) Wrap up T shows the video clip about monkeys which floss their teeth with human hair.

Feedback
1. If it’s possible, it might be good to show the visualized text of each group to everyone.
2. All of the participants were good at drawing and they became to know what the visual thinking is and its value.
3. It was good for students to get some points for both good guessing and good drawing.
