Food, likes and dislikes 

Grade level : Elementary Gr.3

Learning Objective:  

Students will be able to develop their understanding of and ability to use food vocabulary.

Students will be able to talk and ask questions about likes and dislikes.

Students will be able to practice their listening skills.

A. Comprehension Check-up with Matching Pairs in Nearpod

-T asks Ss to sign in Nearpod and shows them pass code to enter.

-Ss do the matching pairs game individually.

-After Ss submit their answers online, T can check the Ss' results.

B. Making Food preference grids for each group(Breakout 2 rooms in Zoom)-Ss ask about the food preference working in groups of 4 on two breakout rooms.

-Before putting Ss breakout rooms, T lets Ss know how to make this survey using the grid.

-After the survey’s done, T asks some questions to Ss and then 

Ss answer it based on the grid together.

-The S who answers can ask a question to another S.

C. Restaurant Menu contest

-Ss make their own menu board with the ’ TTP2020Restaurant’ for each group

in breakout room. (They use the dialogue written on the worksheet)

-After Ss make their menu board, T let them know the price of each dish. 

-The group that makes the total price lower than another group’s, they will be a winner.

D. Online worksheet(Liveworksheets)

-Ss do the work sheet individually on line.

-After Ss do Online worksheet , they can check the result for themselves and send it to T.

- If ss get a right answer with less clues, they can get more point.

  1. Each student reads the given paragraph individually.
  2. Pair Work
     - Students tell what they read to their partners in their own words.
     - Students listen carefully what their partners say and take notes.

   3. Students access to Wizer.me( http://wizer.me ) with given student codes, type in their names and solve the assigned questions about their partners' paragraphs.

   4. After students hand in their answers online, teacher can check the students' results.


B. Cooperative Sentence Sequencing with Padlet
  
  1. Group Work
     - Students retell the stories they listened to the other pairs in their groups.
     - Students listen carefully what the other pairs say.

  3. Students reorder the sentences according to the stories they listened in their groups.
4. The team that finishes first would be the winner.

   1) Read top 3 problems of teenagers.
   2) In pairs, write 1-2 sentences for each problem anonymously, using target expressions.
   3) Share the ideas together and vote for the best advice.

Drawing Relay Activity

B. Procedures
   1) In your groups of 4, 3 people become sketchers and 1 person a guesser.
   2) Teacher will show advice sentences to the sketchers.
   3) The sketchers draw a picture on the whiteboard in relay.
       (10 seconds each)
   4) The guesser should answer by using target expressions.
       (such as You should~, You shouln't~, why don't you~?, etc)
   5) Each group has 3 minutes.

Activity: Word/Sentence Memory Game

Word Memory Game 😊
1. Show 5(or more) words in order in a short time, about 5 seconds.
2. At this time, students CANNOT write the words on the answer sheet.
3. After 5 seconds, teacher says write! (On the screen, no words remain) Students recall the words and write down the words or words' meaning in order on the answer sheet.
4. Switch the answer sheet with other groups and check the answers.
* It's really easy and simple activity, it will take 1-2 minutes for teacher to type in the words.
* For lower level students, it will be better to give English words and let them write Korean meaning. For higher level students, you can provide Korean and make them write in English. For mixed level, one set of Korean and another set of English will be okay.

Sentence Memory Game 😊
1. Make students groups of 4, assign each student number 1 to 4.
* It's better for them to use different color pens in terms of responsibility
2. Teacher shows students a sentence on the screen. Each student has to memorize the sentence in a short time.
3. After 10-20 seconds, teacher says "write!" and student #1 should write it down without watching it. In this stage, group members CANNOT help student #1.
4. Students take their turns. Student #2 has to memorize and write the next sentence, which is shown to students for another 10-20 seconds. This time, student #2 CAN correct the sentence that student #1 wrote if it contains any mistakes.
5. Students take their turns once or twice (normally twice for Dialog in textbook).
6. Before checking, teacher play audio of the text and ask students to check by themselves. Students can discuss with group members in this stage.
7. Switch the answer sheet with other group and check the answers.
* You can provide some Korean clues with students.
* Students' awareness of punctuation can be promoted while checking the answers.
