Teaching Demo_Literary class_Essay Reading Comprehension

Help students to get closer to English literature using essay as literary genre
Language Skills:
Four skills - Reading, Speaking, Listening and Writing skills
Learning Objective: 
1.     Students will read one part of an essay as literary genre assigned to each group and can grasp the theme, gist and details of it
2.     Students can order each part and get the whole story of it figuring out what the writer want to tell you and what they learn from it
3.     Students can brainstorm and write one paragraph essay in group

Teaching Development Goals:
  1. Helping students expose to various variety of literature and enjoy it in their daily life
  2. Starting and finishing the class in a much more engaging way sharing life lesson as well
  3. Even in the third grader whose prime focusing is on KSAT, the score of Test, a teacher can inspire students to consider English a powerful tool to express, heal themselves enriching their life
  4. Improving class management skill

 2) Jigsaw Reading Activity (10min.)

 4) Group Discussion Activity : Odering and constructing whole story sharing thoughts (15min.)

 5)  Writing One paragraph Essay : Brainstorm some ideas for group essay and write (10min.)
 6) Comprehension Check up (2min.)

Group Activity1

Comprehension check up(3min)
-  Ss make a group of four. All three groups.
- Each group has to read, comprehend and discuss the assigned part of a whole essay.
- Every group read three times, at first silently and then read out loud all together and lastly do random relay reading.
- While reading, Ss grasp the meaning of vocabularies, phrases, gist and details of the given text.
- Ss record and organize their thoughts and idea by using the Diamond Map
- What you should do it to figure out gist and details of each part of the story.
- Are there any word, phrase or sentence that capture your eye? If there are, please share with your group and find out the contextual meaning of it.
 - Make a practical use of the Diamond may to collect, enlarge and integrated your group’s ideas.
Group Activity2

Make a Jigsaw
Jigsaw Activity (15min.)

-  Ss make a group of three now. All four groups.
- Each member from the first groups shares previous group’s story with other members in the new group putting each story in order.
 - Ss share their ideas or thought that could resonate with others after reconstructing the whole story.

- Did you make a group of three?
 - Among three stories, which one should be the beginning, middle or end? What was your reason behind the ordering?
 - What does writer want to tell us and what did you learn from the whole story?
Group Activity3
Write one paragraph Essay (10min.)

 - Ss try to write a simplified version of Essay
 - Based on Handout, Ss collaborate each other to make first draft of Essay/ one paragraph essay on the theme they choose from the today's essay.
- OK. Now we go over to the next phase, writing.
- Choose your group’s theme, and then write down main/key sentence and title with your group.
- Please keep in mind, unity of beginning-middle-end of your one paragraph essay.


Wrap-up
(5min.)
 - Ss review what they learned during the class
 - Ss overview the learning process of this literary course.
 - Ss watch a video clip of movie Paterson having a moment to watch and witness some else’s life that literature, especially poetry become a great companion of his would-be banal every day and therefore enriching his life to the fullest. 
- In the next class, you’re going to complete each group’s essay, typical 5 paragraph essay.
